Decorating For Thanksgiving With Mercury Glass Brings a Touch Of Elegance To A Mantel and Tablescape
I have been enamored with mercury glass since my first glimpse of it at a client’s house years ago. It can bring a touch of old world elegance to any room. For awhile I was buying up every piece of mercury glass I could find. Thanksgiving and Halloween were no different. I went a little crazy with mercury glass pumpkins! This year we are traveling for Thanksgiving so I have not decorated for the holiday. So today I am going to share with you last year’s photos that were taken at the last minute. I never got to share these photos. I know, shame on me. Come take a look at how decorating for Thanksgiving with mercury glass can add a touch of class and grandeur to your holiday tablescapes and home.
Dressing Up A Thanksgiving Tablescape With Mercury Glass
My dining room table got a healthy serving of mercury glass. Setting the table the evening before Thanksgiving, I placed a gorgeous cake stand in the center of the table to give my tablescape height and to act as a centerpiece. I placed a burnt orange mercury glass pumpkin to the top and added a bunch of tiny pumpkin potpourri around it. I wound a fall garland around the center of the table and tucked in a few more mercury glass pumpkins and adorable turkey candy dishes.
I dressed up each place setting with one of my DIY mercury glass charger plates that I love so much. Looking at it now I wish I had done something with the napkins. They look a little bare.
Thanksgiving Touches On A Mantel and Living Room
Last year I had just finished building a new fireplace mantel and surround right before Thanksgiving so I kept the decor simple. (My old fireplace mantel was attacked by termites!) I simply added a terracotta turkey to the center, a basket of large pine cones, some fall leaves mixed in with everyday decor…..
And of course this mantel would not be complete without a few mercury glass pumpkins! The large one is actually a luminary from Ballard Designs. You can simply put a tealight in the bottom. It is so pretty when lit up in the evening.
My sofa table received a festive look as well. I filled a vintage silver tray with another mercury glass pumpkin, an everyday mercury glass vessel I display year round, a bunch of pine cones and silk leaves.
With another silver tray I created this sweet little vignette for my coffee table. I love it!
Do you go all out with your Thanksgiving Decorating each year or do you like to keep things simple? Decorating for Thanksgiving with mercury glass will add a formality and elegant touch to your own holiday decor.
