As the air turns crispy and the scent of pumpkin spice fills our home, there’s nothing quite like creating a Halloween display that feels both nostalgic and charming. This year, I styled my mantel with a vintage-inspired, cottagecore twist, blending spooky whimsy with timeless treasures.

The centerpiece of the mantel display is a reproduction Beistle grinning black cat cutout, proudly sporting an orange-and-black plaid bow that I added — a nod to classic Halloween style. Behind it, the ornate mirror adds a touch of elegance, reflecting the soft glow of candlelight and creating a magical sense of depth.

On either side, vintage-style silver wall sconces hold flickering battery operated candles, casting a warm light over the mantel in the evening. A mix of vintage treasures — an old memento mori photograph in a vintage frame, a delicate lace doily, and a miniature Victorian-style baby carriage — add layers of history and interest.

Touches of autumnal charm peek through: a golden mercury glass pumpkin, a few sprigs of fall leaves, and an adorable little Annalee Halloween mouse holding a jack-o’-lantern. These details make the display feel both festive and cozy as though the décor has been lovingly collected over the years. Which it has! I used a lot of my everyday decor in this mantel display. Cottagecore is supposed to look collected and thoughtfully curated. I think I accomplished that here.

I just love my little ceramic black Halloween tree. The vintage ladies’ gloves were a antique mall find when I was out treasure hunting in Belgium. I thought they fit in perfect with this Halloween mantel theme.

To complete the look, I decorated the base of the fireplace with some spooky chipboard cutouts from Dollar Tree, a basket full of pinecones and some small pumpkins. The Haunted Mansion door mat is just too nice to place outside. I purchased this from Victorian Trading Co. a couple of years ago. I was so upset when they went out of business. Their merchandise was always so beautiful. I could flip through one of their catalogs over and over and over again!

I usually find something cute at Dollar Tree to take home with each passing holiday. These smiling Jack O’Lanterns were just asking to come home with me.

I adore the mix of spooky and sweet, of candlelight and cobwebs, where ghosts of the past mingle with the glow of the present. This mantel feels like it could belong in a cozy cottage tucked away in the woods — warm, inviting, and just a little bit haunted. Don’t you think?

So this Halloween season, try blending your favorite vintage finds with a few whimsical Halloween touches. Light some candles, drape a little lace, and let your mantel tell a story — one that’s perfectly cottagecore, cozy, and delightfully spooky.
Tip: Add dim lighting or flickering candles to enhance the vintage feel at night — it’s the perfect backdrop for a cozy fall evening at home.
