A Vacation Beach Rental in Emerald Isle Gets A Coastal Master Bedroom Makeover
Today I would like to share with you a fun redesign project I recently worked on. The homeowner of a cute little vacation beach condo in Emerald Isle wanted help in updating the master bedroom with new bedding, draperies and artwork. Let’s take a look at her Coastal Master Bedroom Makeover shall we?
Before The Master Bedroom Makeover:
As you can see, the bold red and yellow tropical floral bedding and draperies really stand out as you walk into this beach style master bedroom. It is the first thing you notice as you enter what should be a serene, quiet place to relax and unwind after a long day of enjoying the beautiful beaches of the Crystal Coast. The vintage bamboo wicker and rattan furniture was in good condition and is very popular in our coastal community. All this room really needed was a little pick me up. You won’t believe what a difference new bedding, window treatment and artwork made in this beach inspired master bedroom!
The After Story
After a few days of doing some homework on line and just one day of shopping with my client we were able to pull this room together in just a short time. One of the biggest changes in this coastal master bedroom is the addition of a beautiful blue and tan quilt set. The cool blues and neutral seashell designs of this set tones down the room immediately and brings it up to date. Above the headboard I hung two seashell inspired artwork centered with a gorgeous aqua blue carved wood wall panel creating a focal point. This arrangement is much more to scale than the former palm tree framed prints that were hung above the bed in the before picture. The colors were perfect too.
Here is a closer look at the Natural Shells Quilt Set from Bed Bath and Beyond. This set blended perfectly with the neutral beige bed skirt the homeowner already had which saved a few $$$. That’s always a good thing!
A Relaxing Reading Nook
To the right of the bed we swapped out an old red cushion with this neutral beige and brown one on the wicker chair. We also added a small wall plaque that was originally in the room but hiding behind the door. With a vintage table lamp this area is now a sweet little place to relax and read a good book or flip through a few favorite magazines.
This beach style master bedroom makeover would not be complete without replacing the outdated red window treatments. We found a great curtain rod at one of my favorite stores in town and purchased a pair of neutral burlap inspired grommet drapery panels. These were another #BedBathandBeyond find. They add a new texture to the room and the neutrality of these panels will allow them to last for years to come. They blend well with the walls, wood window trim and the carpeting. I hung one simple framed and matted seashell print on each side of the window. Perfect!
A Room With a View
This is a view of the room from the far wall by the window. The homeowner scored a gorgeous metal scroll work wall medallion at an estate sale. I swear it looks as though it was made just for the wall space between the bathroom and closet.
Before From Another Angle
On the opposite side of the room lies a long dresser and another wicker chair. It seems a bit bare.
By adding a simple basket for the TV remote and car keys and flanking the mirror with artwork, this space is much cozier. I also swapped out the red cushion on the wicker chair beside the dresser with another comfy neutral cushion that matches the chair in the reading nook.
A Beautiful Before and After Master Bedroom Makeover Story:
As you can see from the before and after photo below, you can really see the impact a few simple changes made in this vacation beach home bedroom.
This master bedroom is now cool, calming and serene. I had a great time working on this beach style master bedroom makeover. My client was a delight to work with and I hope her future guests will love the new space.
