A few years back I stumbled upon a wonderful salvage yard full of the neatest junk. When I first convinced my husband to turn into the place he looked around and then looked at me like I was nuts. All he could see was a a bunch of JUNK. For those who do not relish the idea of getting dirty while rummaging through piles of old windows, table legs, doors and such don’t see what we junkers do. We see what something COULD be. We delight in the possibility of turning an old piece of fence into a great headboard, an old door into a table, shutters into shelves, etc. Doug’s Salvage is located along Highway 17 in the small town of Hollyridge NC. About a 45 minute drive for me. I have been dying to make a trip back there for sometime and last weekend I finally made it.
After trudging through the place for about an hour I ended up purchasing a few lovely old, chippy pieces of moulding, casings, two table legs and an old section of fencing for my garden.
Total Spent…A Whopping $10!
An here is my first completed project….
TAH DAH…I turned one of the old legs into a bird bath. The “bath” part is an old Enamel bowl and the base is a thrift store plate turned upside down. I put some river rocks in the bottom of the basin and filled it with water. (You can also see the fencing I bought in the background.)
Thanks for stopping by today!
