A Thrift Store Mid Century Mod Nightstand Gets a New Look with Blue and Silver Paint
Hello Blog Land Buddies!
Happy Fall Y’all! I am so happy to have Autumn finally here! For the past week or so it has been just gorgeous here in Eastern NC. It has been cool in the evening, even chilly at night, and the days have been a comfortable 70’s with low humidity. I love this time of year! My windows are open so I can enjoy the fresh air and it is perfect weather for painting projects in the garage.
Today I wanted to share with you a little Before and After project that I recently completed.
I bought this vintage solid wood mid century modern night stand at a thrift shop for a steal.
It was sturdy, well built, but a bit drab. It just needed a little cosmetic makeover. There was paper stuck to the top and the finish was chipping in a few different spots. I sanded down the surface and gave it a couple of coats of a beautiful Valspar sky blue paint I picked up at Lowes.
I love how this Mid Century Modern Night Stand looks now. The paint is just beautiful.
TIP From Lisa:
I know that Chalk paint is all the rage right now. My problem with Chalk paint is the expense and the limited color choices. I always paint my furniture with Water Based Interior Latex Paint in a Satin Finish, followed by a few coats of paste wax. With all of the paint companies coming out with Paint with Primer included, it makes prep time a cinch and the color choices are endless! I constantly check the mistint pile of paint whenever I am in Lowe’s Home Improvement, Walmart and every hardware store I happen go into. You can get a good can of paint at a great price!
I love the lines of this piece……
I reused the original hardware on this night stand. I gave it an updated look with some silver spray paint….
….and I did the metal feet in silver too! I think it adds personality to this pretty piece and the silver is a nice contrast to the blue.
So, before this night stand was drab, dated and dull. With just a little elbow grease and some new paint this Mid Century Modern Night Stand is now ready for a new home in the 21st century!
Mid century modern furniture is very popular right now and many collectors are seeking pieces in their original finish. I prefer an updated, fresh new look that can only be acheived with paint. But, perhaps that’s just me. How about you? Do you prefer painted or preserved wood?
Well, that’s all folks! Thanks so much for visiting today!
