A Master Bedroom Update: An Upcycled Home Office Nook

Happy Monday Everyone,

As you know, I have been working on my master bedroom for over two months now. It is slowly coming along nicely. Today I would like to share with you my “Upcycled Home Office Nook” that takes up a small space in the room. I don’t have an extra bedroom or a basement (I WISH I DID!) so the only place to have an office space is tucked away in my bedroom. I call it my “Upcycled Home Office Nook” because I reused things I already had.

Here is a “Before” picture of my home office nook before we started on the master bedroom renovation….

The desk was ok but the top looked a bit drab and had some knicks in the paint. Instead of just giving it a quick touch up with paint, I decided to get a little more creative. I painted the top the same soft blue as the bedroom walls and stenciled it with the same damask design as the wall treatment. I then stenciled the word Believe on top of that. I had the stencil left over from my Staircase Makeover.

Believe is sort of my personal mantra. It reminds me to Believe In My Dreams, even when those dreams seem unattainable, when every step I take seems to be a struggle. I am a dreamer. When we give up on our dreams part of us dies.

You may remember the large window frame I had hanging above my bed before tearing apart the bedroom.

I loved it but had to find a new place for it since I purchased a HUGE horse painting reserved for that space.

I painted it white, distressed it a little bit and added chicken wire to the back. (There was no glass in this window frame.) I ditched the ugly old wall cabinet and hung the window above the desk.

It makes a wonderful bulletin board!

It’s a perfect place for keeping swatches of fabric, family photos, cards, etc. Just clip them on with painted clothespins! I loved how this piece turned so much that I created another Repurposed Vintage Window Bulletin Board to put in the shop. I am sure someone will wander in and love it just as much as I do.

And here is my Upcycled Home Office Nook the way it looks now. I love it. I think it is cute, clean and fresh.

I am still on the hunt for a wooden filing cabinet that can hold my printer and I just picked up a small $5 chair for the desk. It is in my garage waiting for a makeover. The chair that was originally in the room was too wide. It is now at the store waiting for a new home.

On another note, I have picked up a few treasures this week while out bargain hunting. We have so much space to fill up over at the shop that I have been on the lookout for inexpensive pieces to work on. Here is what I found this week…

They look pretty scary now but I can’t wait to start working on them. I got so excited when I found the chairs. Don’t they have great lines???

  1. Hi, Lisa just a note to say that I love all your projects, your bedroom looks amazing! I would so love to be near your shop as I would probably buy the other bulletin board window. Keep up the good work and keep believing!

    Take care

    • Hi Cheryl,
Thanks so much for the kind words! My business is my dream and it has been a struggle at times. I keep moving forward and keep believing that someday I will get to where I want to be. Thanks so much for reading my blog! Have a wonderful day!

  2. Love the desk, and really love what you did with the window! Great idea for a bulletin board! My parents had those exact dining room chairs (the mid-century ones) when I was a kid. I hated them then but love them now. Ha ha. Take care – Dawn @ We Call It Junkin

    • Thanks Gail,
I am very happy with how it turned out. I am so busy that the master bedroom is taking me a while to complete but it is really taking shape now. I can’t wait to see it all done! Have a great day!
