Love is in the air! It seems like everywhere you go today you are met with an assortment of Valentine’s Day goodies just waiting to be brought home. I am not big on decorating for Valentine’s Day to be honest. I tend to spend January and February recuperating from the holidays and getting my house back to “normal”. It seems as if I am running around like a mad woman from the time I display my first pumpkin in October to when the last Christmas ornament goes back in it’s box in early January. I wish I could tell you that today I will be sharing my gorgeous Valentine’s Day mantel or a small vignette tucked in a corner dedicated to cupid but I have spent the last few weeks cleaning, purging, organizing and watching paint dry (more on that in a later post).
One thing that I do love about Valentine’s Day is Vintage Valentine’s Day Cards.
There are so many things that you can do with vintage cards today and there are a lot of ideas floating around the world wide web that can inspire your creativity. I have spent the past few days surfing the net and putting together a list of crafty ideas (that I love) that could contribute to a Vintage Inspired Valentine’s Day. Some projects are mine and some are from fellow crafters.
If you are an avid baker you will love this crafty project…
I love these adorable cookie pops. They are created with edible vintage Valentine images. You can print these images right off a home printer with special edible ink and frosting paper. You can learn how to create these darlings over at Bakerella.com .
If that is a little over the top for you here’s an easy one…
Dress up your valentine cup cakes with these easy peasy vintage Valentine cup cake toppers. For complete instructions visit About.com’s How To Make Cupcake Toppers with Vintage Cards. (If you don’t have vintage cards, print some vintage postcard images on card stock).
For the Upcycler…
I just adore this Vintage Valentine Frame Tray . With an old frame picked up at a local thrift shop, some vintage valentines, some craft paint and some decorative paper you can create your own version of this pretty tray. You can find instructions for this project over at Vintage Indie.
This easy Vintage Valentine Garland would look so pretty hanging from a doorway or mantel. You can learn how to create your own version over at Sunnybrook Farm Designs .
Crafting with the kiddies…
If you are looking for something fun to do with the kids, try creating a Valentine’s Day Gingerbread House. Last year I had gotten a pre-made gingerbread house kit for Christmas and did not get a chance to erect it. I spent a nice afternoon with my daughter creating this Valentine version. You can see how we did it by reading my post A Valentine Gingerbread House .
A Little Romance….
Spend a romantic evening by the fire, sipping your favorite wine with your sweetie from Hand Painted Valentine Wine Glasses . Play classic tunes from artists like Nat King Cole and Frank Sinatra or pop in a romantic movie like Casablanca to complete your romantic evening.
Light a few candles to set the mood for the evening with a set of Upcycled Vintage Book Page Tealight / Votive Holders…..
This cute Valentine Wreath was made with leftover red Christmas tree garland wrapped around a wreath form and embelished with vintage Valentine post card images, glitter and ribbon.
I LOVE this Vintage Valentine Wreath created by My 3 Monsters ….
I am partial to mason jars. I collect them and use them in my every day decor. I love this Vintage Valentine Jar by Vicky Chrisman featured over at Vintage Street Market.
You can purchase authentic vintage valentines at antique malls or online sites like Ebay.com or even Etsy.com. You can also find loads of free printables floating around the internet. Here are a couple to get you started. Feel free to print as many as you like!
So, that’s it for today folks! Perhaps next year I will get inspired to do a little Valentine’s Day crafting and decorating for myself. This year I am just looking forward to snuggling on the couch with my Honey and watching a romantic movie.
Ta-ta for now!
