An Elegant Christmas Tablescape

Hi All,

Today I am blogging from my seat on the Amtrak train Silver Star as it whisks us away to a few days with Mickey Mouse in Orlando, Florida. Hours before we left I completed my Christmas tablescape in my dining room. It is all set for Christmas Eve dinner, dressed in glitter, elegance and whimsy.

The base for the centerpiece is my newly purchased mercury glass cake pedestal from Ballard Designs. On top I placed this three dimensional Victorian style Santa die cut and added a few embellishments to the base.

I bought these beautiful reindeer at a thrift shop last year. They started out gold, old and tired looking. I gave them a fresh coat of white paint with a sprinkle of white glitter.

The silver glittered star tree topper tucked within the table goodies was a Dollar Tree find. It was love at first sight when I discovered them tossed in a bottom bin amidst other decorations. I knew I would find a place for them somewhere in my holiday design scheme.

The beautiful postcard inspired paper poinsettias were a gift from a friend. I believe she bought them from Kohl’s. I love them!

I was in Kohl’s last week and came across these gorgeous vintage paper themed snowflake ornaments. With a little removable adhesive, they dressed up my “Plain Jane” battery operated candles for Christmas.

I bought a set of 8 mercury glass place card holders on clearance at Michael’s a couple of years ago. I think they look splendid with simple Christmas phrases like Silent Night, Joy, Noel. If I got lucky enough to get my hands on some old photos of family members when they were children on Christmas morning these would be even better.

I created these beautiful faux mercury glass charger plates for each place setting out of plain glass platters. I searched for weeks online for affordable set of eight 13″ glass plates online and was not having much luck. I finally found them at Wal-Mart (and boy was I giddy with delight!) sold individually for $4.48 a piece. For added sparkle, I created these very pretty napkin rings out of an assortment of glittered Christmas tree snowflake ornaments that I purchased last week when Michael’s was having a crazy 70% off sale.

This project was soooo quick and easy and I am in love with the finished results! My 16 year old son who could care less about such things came down and ooohed and ahhhed over how cool they looked. I will show you exactly how I did this in a later post.

To top it all off, my chandelier was dressed in mercury glass ornaments, beaded garland and snowflake ribbon bows.

Adorned with redesigned thrift store finds, tons of mercury glass, vintage dinnerware and glittered embellishments my dining room table is ready to welcome guests for Christmas Eve dinner at Lisa’s. Now if I could only figure out what to put on the menu!

  1. Wht a beautiful table! Love the postcard poinsettias. Those chargers do look awesome! I wanted some that look like pewter without the price tag but haven't figured out how to get that look yet! Your trip to Disney sounds A.O.K. with me! We're in the middle of this darn midwest blizzard right now!

    • Oh Thanks so much! It is bitter cold here today and windy but no snow. My daughter is dying for it to snow but we don't see too much of it on the coast of NC. Coming from Long Island, NY I do not miss digging my car out of the snow after the plows go through. I would love to see some for Christmas! Have a warm and cozy Christmas!
