A Walmart Eiffel Tower Lamp Gets A French Makeover

Today I have a treat for you! Today’s DIY project is a lamp makeover that I just love. A basic Eiffel tower lamp from Walmart gets a dramatic one of a kind French makeover! My husband bought me this ceramic Eiffel tower lamp for Christmas last year. I loved it but felt it needed to be dressed up a bit. A minimalist I am not.

Dress It Up With Photos

I love incorporating photos I have taken while traveling into my home. This lamp was a perfect way to do that. The shade was stark white and plain. I created a design on my computer using photos I had taken on a trip to Paris and sublimated them onto a piece of fabric cut to fit around the shade. I attached the fabric to the shade with adhesive spray glue and trimmed the edges in gimp trim.

The fabric runs around the entire lampshade showcasing a few of my favorite photos from my trip.

I love the French script background and pops of pink from the sweet rosebuds bring out.

French Lamp Makeover

Just below the shade I added a cute embellishment. I bought this beautiful Dreaming of Paris keychain at a gift shop at the Paris Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas. The keychain broke but I didn’t have the heart to throw this beautiful piece in the trash. I created a little lace flower bud, adding the keychain button in the center. It makes a cute addition to this French inspired lamp makeover I think.

I gave the gray ceramic lamp base a white color wash to bring out the details. I learned how to do this color wash technique when I was a kid in ceramics class. I love doing this technique. I even used it for my wedding favors many many years ago. I will have to pull one out of storage and share it with you when I get a chance!

A Completed French Lamp Makeover

And here is the plain Walmart Eiffel Tower French Lamp Makeover project complete! What do you think? This lamp is currently sitting in my bedroom where I can look at it and remember my trip to Paris (and Las Vegas) everyday!

The next time you pick up a simple, “Plain Jane” lamp from a big box store, think about how you can dress it up and make it your own. A little paint, fabric and embellishments can go a long way in giving it a whole new, custom look for your own home.
