Upcycling Old Closet Doors

Happy Monday Everyone!
I hope you have all had a wonderful week. I have been busy in my studio and would like to share one of my latest projects with you today.
I’ve had a pair of old paneled closet doors from an old project stashed in my garage for quite some time. I needed something to fill a space above my sofa in the livingroom. I thought of those old doors and the wheels began turning. Hmmmm. If I cut the panels down it would be the perfect size. I thought about painting them but wanted to add more interest to them than just a paint job and distressing. Here’s what I came up with…..

I cut it down and gave it a chocolatey brown base coat. I’ve had this pretty textured paintable wall paper laying around for months. I thought it would be a great way to add some interest to the center of the panel.

The wall paper was prepasted but I opted to glue it down with spray adhesive.closet door panel

I then appiled Crackle medium to the panel. Once dry, I applied a topcoat of antique white. Here are the results!

I loved the look so much I created two more to put in the shop!

I really love the blue one. I have a hunch that if it doesn’t sell it will end up somewhere in my house!

Well, I hope you enjoyed this little tutorial on revamping old closet doors!

Thanks so much for visiting today!

Just scrumptious, Lisa! I’ve painted closet doors, but not as pieces of art. What a great idea! But I’d have to do another finish besides crackle. I’m crackle-impaired. Seriously. I’ve tried every brand, technique, throughout the years and finally just gave up. So I really appreciate these doors!

I love the doors! I would like to do this in my kitchen, but my cabients are straight from the 60-70's. do you have any advice on how to do so. Also i would like to do the colors grayish blue and white, blue being the bottom color. Any advice would help. Thanks
