Embrace Summer In The Country By Decorating With Sunflowers

Summer is in full swing here in eastern North Carolina and boy it has been HOT! One of my favorite summer flowers is the sunflower and I love to incorporate them into my summer decorating. Every year I attempt to grow a few of my own sunflowers in my garden and sometimes I get lucky enough to see a few grow up. In our former house I could grow sunflowers that grew to be about 6 feet tall but for some reason I haven’t had much luck with them in our current home. They usually only grow to about 2-3 feet. I don’t think they like my soil.

Sitting on my porch swing is a pair of two hand painted sunflower pillows I made from a canvas drop cloth. I love them.

Right next to my front door hangs a cheerful hanging planter filled with an arrangement of silk sunflowers. I don’t have to worry about forgetting to water them and they always stay looking great.

If you love decorating with sunflowers you don’t necessarily have to work with the “real thing”. These gorgeous sunflowers in my front garden are actually fake! My Mom bought them for me on sale at Hobby Lobby last summer. Local craft stores usually have an abundance of realistic looking silk sunflowers in the summer and they are great additions to a country inspired home. The more realistic they look the more expensive they will be so wait for them to go on sale or you have a great coupon.

If you are looking to add some sunflower inspired decor to your home this summer you may not have to look further than your local grocery store. I bought this pretty bouquet in the floral department of my local Lowe’s Foods. They have a great selection of reasonably priced fresh flower bouquets. They look so pretty placed in an old milk bottle in my country cottage kitchen.

Whether you grow some in your garden or purchase some sunflower inspired decor for your home, decorating with sunflowers is a wonderful way to add Country charm to your home this summer.
