(Re) Decorating A Mantel….Less Is More???

Hi All,

I am sure some of you may remember my Winter Inspired Mantel Post from a few weeks ago. Well, I decided it was time to put my sweet little snowmen to bed finally. They are now neatly tucked away in the garage with the rest of my Holiday goodies. So away they went and I began fumbling around with my mantel accessories.

This is what I came up with.

After a few days of living with it and looking at it I decided it just was not working for me. It was just too symetrical. I sat there scratching my head, staring at the mantel and thought MAYBE I would try a more minimalistic approach to it so I cleared everything off of it and started over.
HMMMMM…..

I began by adding  a few of my favorite mercury glass pieces on either side of the mirror. HATED IT. Too plain, too boring.

So I added a line of small mercury glass lantern style votive holders.

STILL HATE IT.

I removed the lanterns and added a few new pieces. Hmmm. I think I’m getting warmer.

I started adding things in layers. My living room has taken on a bit of an Aviary theme so these bird inspired accessories seemed fitting.

To soften all the reflective glitz, glam and shine of the mercury glass I added a wodden birdcage, vintage bird print, bird votives and wooden plaques I created on vintage book pages.

This is the final result. It’s Done….. For Now.

Thanks so much for visiting today. Here’s a sneak peak of what’s to come in near future posts.
