Quick and Easy Flea Market Flip: DIY Picture Frame Serving Tray

Today I am stopping by to show you how to create a cute cottage style serving tray out of an old picture frame. I’ve had this picture frame hanging on the wall for years and grew tired of the picture inside. My Grandfather gave it to me before he passed and I didn’t want to donate it to my local thrift shop.

After thinking about it awhile I decided to paint the frame my new favorite color aqua blue and distress it a bit. I inserted a fun red and white polka dot fabric (which will also be used to make curtain valances and pillows for my breakfast room) and VOILA…

A Cute Cottage Style Picture Frame Serving Tray!

I made this tray for display purposes only. I think it looks great as a centerpiece on my kitchen table. I love the fun polka dotted fabric!

Make Your Own Picture Frame Serving Tray

To make your own picture frame serving tray you will need:

  • Old Picture Frame with glass
  • Paint
  • Pretty Fabric or Decorative Paper

Optional:

  • Thin MDF board cute to size of the frame
  • Very Small Nails
  • Cabinet Drawer Handles
  • Wood Glue

Open the back of the frame. Remove glass. Paint your frame and let dry. Cut your fabric or paper to size. Insert it into your frame reinstall the back.

If you are using strictly for display purposes you can stop there. If you want to actually carry it around and use it for serving, attach the MDF board to the bottom with wood glue and nails. Add a decorative handle on each end and you will have a decorative and functional serving tray.

    Dear Lisa
I've been checking all your wonderful make-overs. OMG. We are kindred spirits for sure. My kitchen table was yucky brown. it's been a pretty blue like your chairs, with a pink table. I want you to see it. It's in my archives somewhere on my blog, but I would love to send you some pics of it. I tell you it's the same!! I think we distress the same too ; )
