Old Screen Door Makeover

posted in: Shabby to Chic Makeovers | 12

So…what good is an old screen door, old shutter style closet doors and scrap wood????

Well, with a little creativity, paint, and elbow grease these cast offs can be recreated into a new display unit!
Mid-project photos…
I found the screen door on the side of the road ready for the trash heap. I saw it and quick as a wink turned around and pulled over. I dashed out of the car, looked around to see if anyone was watching the “crazy trash picker lady” and hauled it into the back of my mini van. SCORE! I wasn’t sure what I was going to do with it but who could pass up such a find??? My husband would have left it right there and so would my Mom but certainly not a junk lovin’ treasure hunter like me! I stashed it in my garage and there it sat for a few months.
A few weeks ago I was thinking about a design plan for my space at the shop and knew I needed some new shelving units. The screen door came to mind and I got to work. I went to my local thrift shop and found the closet doors for $10 and the wood for the shelves were already stashed in my garage. Its not perfect as I know where all my “mistakes” are but am pretty happy with the way it turned out. Here it is in its after phase…all gussied up in the new shop space….
What do you think????

THIS is why I love blogs so much! I have been needing something for a china and doo-dad display piece in my dining room for quite sometime now, and something like that would be perfect!! I'm off on a hunt now! What an awesome idea. You rock!

Great idea! It is a nice piece for display as things can be seen from the back side, but won't fall off. ♥♫
