New Uses for Old Canning Jars

posted in: Cottage Decorating | 12
I have admired and collected vintage canning jars for years. To me they represent simpler times, living on a farm and good old fashioned home cooking. I have never canned anything in my life but can remember my Grandmother canning tomatoes in her kitchen. Perhaps someday I will tackle the task of canning something myself….preserves maybe! Anyway, I have accumulated many jars of different sizes and shapes over the years. I have them all over the house. I am partial to the old blue jars. Old canning jars can be used in a variety of ways that’ll give your decor a hint of nostalgia!
This old blue jar has been filled with sand and a votive candle for a beachy feel.
They can also be filled with sea shells or beach glass.

Fill one with popcorn kernels and topped off with a candle for a Country Look. During the Holidays change out the popcorn for peppermint starlight candies or red hots.
Turn one into a candle!
They also look beautiful filled with flowers.
They can also be filled with old buttons, marbles, etc.
The possibilities are endless!!!
Start your own collection by hunting for them at yard sales, thrift stores, flea markets and antique shops!

I wouldn't trade my Old Jars for anything! I use mine to store dry foods like pasta. They are gorgeous sitting on the shelf!

I love my old blue canning jars. Right now I have old buttons in one and old thread in another. Those jars are hard to find in my neck of the woods. These were passed down to me from my mom. So they have sentimental value as well. Thanks for sharing!
