An Equine Inspired Antique Dresser Update

A Simple Antique Dresser Update With Equestrian Flair

Hello My Fellow Decorating Fans,

Today I would like to share with you an antique dresser transformation that I am just tickled with. I bought this vintage dresser at a thrift shop a few years back. This particular thrift store is like an antique mall but cheaper. The dresser had some damage to the veneer but for $20 I couldn’t pass it up. It had great lines and I knew I could give it the TLC it needed.

I spackled over the spots that were missing the veneer, sanded it and gave the dresser a crisp white paint job with some distressing. I moved it into my Master Bedroom and it has been there ever since.

Needless to say the veneer chips returned over time and I also grew tired of the all white piece. Since I had to repair the damage once again I felt it was time for another makeover. This time I used wood filler to repair the damage. I painted the large drawer fronts the same soft blue on my bedroom walls.

I added new drawer pulls as well. I fell in love with these blue mercury glass pulls from Hobby Lobby.

Pretty light blue glass drawer pulls were added to the two top drawers.

I have loved horses my entire life and have decorated my master bedroom in an Equestrian theme. I wanted to incorporate the theme into my dresser makeover so I got a little creative. I designed this pretty horse inspired image on my computer with my equine friend “Felix” as the focal point and printed it out. I affixed it to the main drawer front on top of the raised decorative panel. “Equestre” is the French word for Equestrian.

This really gave the dresser a unique personal touch and I love it. This is the photo of Felix that I used to build the design. I snapped it one Sunday when I was working. He was at the fence waiting for me to bring him in from the pasture. It was a great shot! Isn’t he handsome? He can be a bit of a brat sometimes but I just love him.

On top of the updated dresser is a vintage framed mirror that I am using as a tray to hold a collection of mercury glass bottles, a horse figurine and a glass bottle that I decorated with a vintage rose image, ribbon and rosettes.

Horse head bookends hold a grouping of vintage books. I adore decorating with old and new hardcover books. I use them throughout my home.

I am so happy with how this equine inspired antique dresser update turned out. It was a simple redesign and looks great!

One of these days I am going to have to give you a full tour of my bedroom in one post. I have been putting it off because I have one last project to do in there that has been sitting on the back burner for quite a while now. In the meantime you can see bits and pieces of my master bedroom by just searching my blog.

Thanks so much for visiting my little corner of Blogland today.
