A Sentimental Christmas

A week or so ago my daughter and I proceeded to decorate the family Christmas tree. As we pulled out the ornaments one by one I realized that over the years we have aquired many “sentimental” ornaments. From ornaments I made when each of my children were born to photo ornaments, and many that my children created at school with their little hands. Every year I try and make my kids a new ornament that reflects what they are interested in that year. This year my daughter is into princesses and the Little Mermaid so this year I will create a Little Mermaid ornament with her name and date on it. My son, going on 13 is mainly into his Ipod, PS3, computer and a new book series that is about Cats or something. Coming up with his ornament will be a little more difficult this year.
I remember the first Christmas my husband and I spent together. We went and bought a huge tree at a local fire department. Starting from scratch that year we only had a few string of lights, a couple of boxes of glass ornaments and an Angel tree topper. It really wasn’t much so we had to put the tree in a corner and decorate just the front.
Things sure have changed over the years and our Christmas tree reflects that. Our Christmas tree not only holds our collection of onaments but our cherished memories as well. Isn’t that what Christmas is all about?
