A Livingroom Redesign- From Americana Country to Cottage Chic

I was a fan of what I call “Cutsie” Country decor for ages and about 4 years ago I fell in love with Cottage Style. About a year ago I decided my Americana inspired livingroom needed a change.
The chages I made were easy without any major revamps. I didn’t paint or go out and buy new furniture, I just swapped out the Americana accessories for ones with more of a cottage feel. I found this gorgeous floral fabric in a remnant bin ON SALE no less and created new curtains, pillows and table cloth. I repainted the shutters flanking the windows a lovely aqua. I did add a coffee table I built from scratch and painted aqua.
The lamp got a new shade and I added the display shelf so I could show off my favorite Tea Set.
I also swapped out the primitive style candle sconces above the fireplace with these metal ones and to the mantel I added a vintage crochetted dresser scarf, metal candle holders, a birdcage, vintage mason jars filled with seashells and a few star fish for a beachy look.
Most of the items used in this redesign were thrift store and yard sale items. Redecorating a room can be an easy and inexpensive task with a little creativity. I am still tweaking but I love my cozy cottage style living  room.

I really like the red and blue together. It's amazing what a few changes can do to change the whole mood of a room. Looks great.
