How To Update A Mid Century Modern Style Vintage Foot Stool And Bring It Into The 21st Century
Hello Blog Land Friends,
I hope you had a safe and happy 4th of July! We spent a quiet day at home visiting with family, relaxing in the pool and enjoying some barbequed goodies.
Today I am happy to share with you another mid century mod makeover project and tips on how to update your own mid century modern foot stool. Mid-Century Modern furniture is actually pretty popular right now in the decorating world. With the success of the popular TV show Mad Men, the love for the style of the 1950’s and 60’s and it’s clean, simple lines has been on the rise. I have always loved vintage kitsch and I must admit I have hopped on the “Retro Chic” Bandwagon. I love working on vintage furniture from this era and giving it a modern day twist.
I found this small Mid Century Modern Foot Stool / Ottoman at one of my favorite haunts a few months ago. I stashed it in storage for a while until I was ready to give it a modern day makeover.
Here’s how I did it.
Flip over the footstool and paint the legs a fresh, crisp white. After that I painted the metal tips silver. Painting the legs first is a good idea so you don’t have the risk of getting paint on the new fabric you will be putting on later.
Unscrew the legs and brackets and remove the bottom backing.
Remove the vinyl covering and lay out your new fabric. If you have a print on the fabric make sure you have it lined up correctly. Cut the fabric to size leaving enough to wrap around the sides and about an inch to staple.
Pull the fabric taught and secure with staples all the way around. I love my electric staple gun! It is so easy to handle and I have so much fun with it.
Once the fabric is attached, trim off any excess and reattach the legs and brackets with screws.
Enjoy your newly Updated Mid Century Now Modern Foot Stool! I love the fresh aqua blue fabric I chose for mine. It could easily fit in a beach cottage or any bright and cheerful room, retro or not. It is now in the shop waiting for its new owner to walz in and fall in love with it.
So there you have it folks! I hope you have been inspired to tackling your own Mid Century Modern Furniture Update!
